The Full Stack Engineer Development Role at DHS:

We are embarking on an exciting journey to establish an internal development team in our Office of Analytics, Technology and Planning (ATP) at DHS with the goal of creating delightful, innovative customer experiences to support our wide range of services and programs. As the inaugural full stack developer to join our team, you will play a crucial role in architecting the development process for onboarding and launching new applications to serve internal users, providers, and the general public.

Up until now, we have relied on a substantial contingent of 3rd party contractors to develop and maintain our applications. In this role, you will collaborate closely with these contractors, ensuring that new application requirements are met and older applications are modernized to adhere to current technical standards. As we expand our internal development team, we will gradually transition to building more solutions in-house.

Key responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including backend developers, external vendors/contractors, UX/UI designers, and product managers, to deliver seamless, delightful, and user-centric experiences.
  • Communicate effectively with individuals from all levels and backgrounds, fostering productive collaboration across departments.
  • Lead the way in ensuring excellent UI practices are followed, setting high standards for user interface design within the local government.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Has 5+ years of experience in web application development using JavaScript, TypeScript, or another relevant language, along with proficiency in front-end web frameworks like React, Vue, or Angular.
  • Can proficiently integrate applications with RESTful APIs and a Data Warehouse, such as Oracle, ensuring smooth data integration.
  • Possesses some experience with the .NET Core Framework and WCF Services.
  • Demonstrates excellent knowledge of modern-day cloud-native platforms like Kubernetes, AWS, or Azure, coupled with a strong understanding of the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Has a proven track record of building modular UI components that facilitate easy integration of features into other teams’ applications, promoting code reusability.
  • Possesses proficiency in design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, and the Adobe suite, enabling efficient design implementation.
