Description

Meta Mesh Wireless Communities is looking for a full time field installer to perform installation and maintenance of wired and wireless networking equipment, Ethernet and electrical cabling, security cameras, and Linux-based Zoneminder DVRs. We are looking to hire immediately. No certifications are required for this position. The position requires alternating between high physical demands and technical skills throughout each project. About the Employer: Meta Mesh Wireless Communities (“MMWC”) is a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit organization with the mission to bridge the Digital Divide by bringing no- or low-cost wireless Internet access to people in-need across the Greater Pittsburgh Area. MMWC partners with groups like universities, school districts, other nonprofit organizations, faith-based institutions, and government entities to identify and serve constituents in their communities who do not have reliable or affordable access to the Internet. To fund this work, MMWC receives grants and donations, and enters into paid contracts with Sponsoring Entities to cover the cost of build-out and services. This way, individuals in need are not burdened with a monthly bill for service. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Installing, maintaining, and repairing Ethernet cabling and network equipment, including routers, switches, wireless access points, and antennas. Testing equipment and cabling, and repairing or fixing as needed. Installing cable support structures such as network racks, patch panels, and conduit. Working on support tickets and scheduled equipment installations. Troubleshooting technical problems and resolving customer issues. Providing education to users on the use of equipment and services. Collaborating with internal customer service to ensure work orders and support requests are handled correctly and timely. Safely operating and maintaining company-issued tools, equipment, and vehicles. Other duties as assigned.

Key Elements to Position: Critical thinking, deductive reasoning, and problem solving skills. Excellent communications and listening skills, working closely with other members of the support team. Professional demeanor and attitude when interacting with users and co-workers. Able to deal with a fast-paced work environment. This role will involve multiple tasks and projects. An ideal candidate will use their judgment to make decisions on priority, and adapt to changing work situations while keeping management and co-workers updated on progress. Solving problems, both physical and technical, with minimal oversight. Be able to communicate these solutions to management through documentation and communication. Qualifications and Experience Comfort with networking, cabling, and physical installation of equipment is essential. Expert-level network and system administration is not required, but the ability and willingness to learn and resolve technical issues is essential. A clean driving record and ability to drive a work vehicle to and from job sites is required. Ability to work independently using critical thinking and creative problem solving is required. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Must be comfortable working at heights, and on ladders. Must have some experience running cable in a non-data center environment. Those with electrician experience are preferred. Familiarity with Ubiquiti equipment (UniFi, EdgeMAX, LTU) and wireless networking is preferred.
